What Exactly Is A Weight Loss Boot Camp?

Most people tend to have a view of a boot camp consisting of a guy dressed in army uniform shouting instructions at new recruits and generally making their lives hell. This is probably because the term boot camp is derived from the process that new recruits would have to go through to get themselves in shape before they were allowed to join the army properly.
Even though most weight loss boot camps use the term, the old army mentality could not be further from the truth. The term boot camp is actually used as a metaphor for getting great results in the shortest time possible. Most camps in the UK and the USA normally like to run in blocks of 4 weeks and it is during the first of these 4 week blocks that people get the most impressive results.
Basically what happens is that they get whipped into shape super quick in just the same way that the army recruits did. However there is no uniformed sergeant major or corporal shouting at you, just lots of advice on nutrition, motivation and exercising in the correct manner to avoid injury and ensuring that you get the best results possible.
The nutrition aspect is one of the most important things you can do to lose weight. It doesn't matter how hard you train if you do not try to control what goes in your mouth. You cannot out train your diet no matter what you do. Nutrition amounts to over 70% of the results you will get in any weight loss program, so if you decide that you want to go to a weight loss boot camp, make sure that they give you a nutritional plan that is designed to help you lose weight quickly and supports you eating healthier in general.
The eating healthier part is really important because this helps give your body all the nutrients needed while at the same time helping to cut down on the less that healthy processed foods that make us store unwanted body fat. Eating healthier to lose weight rather than focusing on just cutting calories also stops our bodies from going into starvation mode. This ultimately helps us to get quicker fat loss results than if we were to just count calories alone.
The exercise portion of any boot camp or fit camp needs to be structured to get maximum benefits. Ideally this should consist of circuit style exercise routines using body weight exercise and not too much steady state cardio. Exercise should include things like squats, lunges, planks, core exercises and press-ups.
It is also important to make sure that they do not do too much press up exercises however, as this can affect posture and that the instructor or personal trainer also focuses on back muscles as well. The cobra is an excellent exercise for strengthening the upper back muscles especially if you do a desk job that requires you to be sat at a computer for up to eight hours per day.
Finally the last thing any weight loss boot camp should focus on is how much sleep you are getting. Sleep is something that can affect weight loss. You need to get at least eight hours of quality sleep per night in order to keep your cortisol levels low and ensure that your body is primed for the next day. It is recommended that you get to bed by around 10:30pm each night and get up around 6:30 am for maximum weight loss results.
