Many of us set a starting day or date for beginning our weight loss plan. Perhaps we plan to start tomorrow, or after Christmas, or before our holiday.
Using delay tactics virtually guarantees failure. Here are the reasons why:
1) It can make us feel pressurized.
If we decide that we are going to begin a new diet tomorrow or next week, we immediately feel the pressure of preparing for the task ahead. We may begin to feel anxious and stressed as we consider the healthy foods we need to buy, and thinking about disposing of the fattening foods hanging around in the cupboards and freezer and so on. This kind of pressure and stress will not help in fact it will just magnify the problem, making us feel even more anxious, overwhelmed and stressed.
2) It may make us want to binge eat now before we start.
If we have set our starting day for beginning our diet tomorrow or before the holidays, we will start to think that we should take advantage of the time we have left to binge on all the delicious, fattening foods we can, because we will be deprived of them for weeks to come. We will probably be of the opinion that we should eat what we can now. In addition to feeling pressured, anxious and stressed about our impending diet, we have just over indulged so much that we now feel guilty, disgusted with ourselves, and have probably increased our weight by a few more pounds, which means even more weight to lose.
3) It makes us look forward to the diet finishing date.
If we have set a starting date for our diet, presumably we have planned a finishing date too. If this is the case, it means that we are only aiming to diet for a short time span, perhaps just losing a few pounds, and then we will revert back to our old bad eating habits, which will probably result in gaining the weight back again.
It is quite obvious why these issues can lead to problems.
Our chances of weight loss success are much higher if we employ a healthy, long-term weight loss plan offers a little flexibility instead of being too rigid.
If we forget about the old mentality of setting a diet commencement date, and instead look upon our eating and exercise habits as a collection of informed decisions, we will find it less stressful and easier to make better decisions for the present time. So there is no need to wait until tomorrow to begin our diet, start from today.
All we need to do is to begin to eat healthily, exercise daily, and lose weight and trim and tone as we journey forward.
